1. Being an international student, my home-town is not in the US, but in Taiwan. The name of the city is Kaohsiung (cow-sh-own), which was the 3rd greatest harbor in the world and is the 6th now. Ethnically, like most people live in Taiwan, I am a Chinese. However, we are different from people live in China in some traditions/values. Had been governed by Japanese, we've inherited many conventions/values from them. All of these influence us, and our living style. Even if I am living in America now, I'm still celebrating Chinese New Year, the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival and often eating sushi/sashimi.
2. I am interested in Biochemistry/Genetics and got a Master degree in that field in Taiwan. However, I'm also planning about to apply dental schools in the US. The reason why I take this class is to improve my English, especially in speaking. Although I’ve been in the US for one year, I still can't speak English fluently. Therefore, I have to practice more, and this class could give me the chances. Besides, I am a full-time student taking 6 units in CRC and 6 units in SCC. (by the way, we defined full-time as 12 or more units.)
3. Because I am an international student, I am not allowed to have any job except in school. (I don’t even have social security number.) But when I was in Taiwan, I have served in the military as a corporal for 20 months; it's our duty to serve in the military. I am not married nor do I have any child. A typical school day for me is to go to school at morning and go home at afternoon, eating, studying, watching TV (for improving listening comprehension). Only on Mon/Tues I have to go to school at night.
4. In my free time, I would like to watch movies and play computers. I used to play some online-games, though I quit because I don’t have too much time to play them, but I think I will rejoin if I got plenty of time. In addition, snowboarding should also be fun, though I've only done it once in my life. It's fun, but kind of hurt. (I know I need more practice.)
5. I have a very cute Dutch lop-eared rabbit called Spot. I am always glad to show my friend when they visit me. Unfortunately, Spot has a very bad "habit". Even if I realize it is a kind of his appetence, nonetheless it is very awkward. One day, two female friends came to my home and played with Spot. Suddenly, Spot used his arm to hold my friend's wrist and started shaking his bottom. At that moment, when we looked at each other, I felt so embarrassed that I didn't know what I should do but look at Spot and wait until he "finished".
I like to go shopping with my girlfriend, too. I'm not sure about the rest of you guys, but I am thinking about if "like to go shopping" can be another common threads.
Becky, I agree with you and think it will be good if we are the first group to introduce each other. However, I'm worry about if we are not the first group and some other groups have already said that (like they all want to succeed and be educated, too). Then, saying the same thing with them could become a bit ordinary...
Probably we can make a back-up common thread emphasized the "unmarried/no children"
I am Paul. My name is not on this Blog List, but I chose to write here because this group had the least commments so I could make a contribution to this group by blogging. I hope I am welcome. Pardon me if I have invited myself in. I am sure Sandra will deal with me if I am out of order by blogging here.
1) My hometowns are many. But ultimately San Francisco has my heart. I do not leave it there, but it is biggest when I am there. Much of my family's history esp. on Mom's side concerns San Francisco, and therefore, its history is mine in a way.
2) I also have many favorite movies. Among them: The Wizard of Oz; Winged Migration; Forest Gump; Mumford; Lord of the Rings; Schindler's List; Saving Private Ryan; used to like Dances With Wolves alot; favorite movie used to be Dr. Zhivago when I was young and romantic.
3) I thought thuy's comment on Blog post group #4 that many in that group are single with no children is interesting... since I chose this blogspot randomly... and I am single with no children... though I was a virtual step father for about 6 years... ---Paul DeLong
Oh more movies... I am extremely fond of the Sci Fi production of "Children of Dune." There is a lot of non-verbal communication there, since the Fremen are the strong silent type, and like DRY wit. LOL Paul DeLong
