Last Blog: All Classes, Due May 15th!!! ELVIS LIVES

This photo is one good reason to sign up for Coms 331, small group discussion...A somber, serious class where we unearth deep spiritual and philisophical truths about societal communication and Heidegairrian contingent truths. The great thinker, Elvis, could not have put it better when he said, "That's alright, Mama." For your final post, please consider 1.) Elvis, 2.) communication, and 3.) your Mama...Keep in touch, great hanging with you all this semester!--S (idnasss@yahoo.com)

COMM301
As much as I would like to say good things about mother's day, I can't. It's not so simple to say good things about someone who never wanted you in the first place. I don't speek to my relatives unless they need money then they find a way to track me down. I know that there are good mothers out there in socity so I'll end by telling them to have a supper mothers day:)

hi everyone,
Although Mother's day has almost passed, I still wanna say happy Mother's day to you guys.
As Kelvin and Fermina said, this class and, especially, Sandra have helped us a lot. And I think COMM331 is worth taking for everyone who wanna improve their communication skills.

I like the research done by Wilmot Mitchell on Elvis - thanks for the info. That was sure great connection between Elvis, communication and mom. I have seen some of his movies and concerts on TV but was never a real fan. The only thing I know was that he died of sleeping pill overdose (is it realy sleeping pills or simply drugs?). Despite that, he used his singing or his means of communication to the fullest and captivated the world. That is why he is King.
On my mom, our family has always been close. And Mom would be the most wonderful thing on earth. She comes from a family of 8 girls and she gave birth to 5 girls! When we were little, she was strict in the sense that she wants to make sure we all did our homework. Now I love her for doing that. She instilled in us the value of education and I think that is the greatest gift she has given all of us. We all got our degrees, thanks to her. She's celebrating her 75th bday in July and I have to think of something special for her.
Thanks to Sandra-for being a wonderful and fun teacher! I truly enjoyed Com 321 and feels time just passed us by. Yes, we'll keep in touch!

Ronald Reagan deservedly was nicknamed "The Great Communicator." When it came to pop music, Elvis Presley communicated just as effectively. Some critics would say he over-communicated, in fact! haha. His swaggering, gyrating hips spawned the shock era we have today. What started as an Elvis hip is now a Janet Jackson malfunction ala Breast Expose'.

By using the word "mama", people generate positive feelings. In communication this is called "Emotionally Loaded Words."

"Mama" makes most of us feel at ease, feel at peace and a sense of comfort is felt by The King with his large hair and crooning voice.

Regarding my mama...well, as it was, I had two mamas growing up. The biological woman who had me and the woman who married my father that raised me the majority of the time. This is not an ideal situation, but I have much to be grateful for.

Neither of my Mamas were GREAT communicators -- as a matter of fact, I've devoted more to communication the last few years mostly out of sheer interest with its effect in my own life.

Many times, I've said things similar to "That's alright, Mama." Mama is like one lover calling the other "Baby" or "honey", but in a more maternal sense. The intimacy shared in the short and sweet statement requires nothing else to be said.

Sandra, class has been fun. We've lived life together, listened to fascinating stories, witnessed your "knocked up" announcement and had the not-so-enjoyable opportunity to view an odd film on gender....hey...chalk it all up. You've been a patient and fun professor for us...THANK YOU and Happy Mother's Day!!!
