For next Friday, we voted to have the fictional scenario be: A CRC speech class reunion held 20 years into the future, all members of our class have gone on to be rich, famous and wildly successful, we attend a dinner to celebrate our success and the many doors that have been opened to us simply by passing the Public Speaking class (!) So, read the "After Dinner Speech" in the special occasion speech chapter of your textbook (just a page or two, no problem) and then plan, without an outline or any formal structure, a 3-4 minute speech, using some humor or witty, interesting remarks, w/a begining, middle and end, rather than intro, body and conclusion. (You may want to end the speech with a toast, also covered in this chapter). So joinus next week, raise your glasses and toast all of our wealthand success in 2037! It has been so nice getting to know you all this semester, I have really enjoyed being your teacher! Please post anyquestions or comments about this last speech below and that will count for this weeks blog points. Thanks--Sandra The Blogging Sensation |

Dear Sandra,
I have enjoyed being a future billionaire in your class, and you will be happy to know, that, though my future holdings will probably be tied up in investments, precluding an donations to any of your current or future political causes, I believe I will have some "off shore" funds which will be a great tax write off to build a new building at CRC at some time in the very indefinite future. I promise to name it the "Wheeler Center." But, I did have a question... does our after dinner speech need citations and or visuals ?
Well! It is the end of a fun class and thank the stars I actually get credit toward my AS for this class. I did learn a lot and have enjoyed all of you! I am glad in 20 years you will all be rich. I will retire in another state on a big land of property with all my in laws and out laws! As they say"Family First!"

This weekend was great. Went to see two concerts: Eric Burdon and Hermans Hermits. Any of you know them? If you do, welcome to old age! I am going to be sad in 20 years because these two group will more than likely be long gone! I hope there is still good music in 20 years and not just this rap _rap left! What will they replace CDs with since the CDs replaced records? Hey Paul, what do you think?
kel
Oh my gosh!! I have to blog three more time to get my ten. It was hard going thru and counting them all.
Sandra! I will be going back and posting comments where I didnt to get my numbers up. Hope that is ok with you. Now I am worried.
2 after this blog if it counts!!??

IMPORTANT NEWS FLASH
We have whales in West Sacramento right now. I watched the news and they put people clapping and cheering on tv and it makes me sick.
These people are so out of touch as to what is going on in the world and that these Whales are diing in the River. Whales are supposed to be in the Ocean where there is SALT. I dont think it is cool.
I do realize that 20 years ago it happened for the first time with a Whale they called Humphry in Rio Vista but it is not the same. Over 50 miles up river for whales is dangerous for them.
We have got to do something about the world and what they find amusing. People like death and it make me so sad!
Kelley
I wonder if the animals clap and cheer when humans get in accidents and die? It would be fitting concidering we do the same thing.
I wonder how many of you watch the news. Before I got a job at Kaiser, while going thru Medical Assisting School, I worked as an assistant manager at a Chevron gas station. It was a new gas station and after we opened it (West Taron and Elk Grove Blvd)they started building a Shell across the street. This Shell was where a man was stabbed to death two days ago because he tried to break up a fight.
I can not express my feeling on this to get them through to people. I watched a woman get her purse stolen in front of the college a couple of weeks ago and he shoved her down to the ground. She yelled for help between sobs and the people just watched him get away. He ran right past them!
When I was young, people helped on another and the world was a safer place. Something is happening that is very bad. People are afraid to help any one any more because they might get hurt or die. Can we change the world? Can we make a difference? I am loosing hope and if hope is lost so are we as a civilization!

Sad and confused
I want to see happiness on the news just for once. But happiness is not news anymore.
To all of my class mates:
What can we do to change this?
How can we get over the fear of hatered?
Do you have hope?
Help me find an answer! PLEASE!
I want to live my life and be able to pick up that hitchiker and not be afraid to help him on his way with out being afraid he will murder me! I was once that hitchiker. When I was young I had no fear. I still dont. I still pickup hitchikers. Do you? Would you?
Kelley
Never mind Sandra! I just blogged here with off topic stuff. Thank you for being you!
Kelley
I guess I have the same question as Paul about citations or visuals. Maybe you went over this in the class Friday. I would assume that there would not be. Well in 20 years I sure won't be here in California I'll also be out of state like Kelly with a large piece of land probably where I grew up, in the country on a farm.
Curtis
Kelly, those things are pretty disturbing how people don't help others. Everyone seems a little to much into themselves and not wanting to get involved. About the whales and people cheering and clapping I think it is just because they don't see that every day and don't realize at that moment what could or will happen to them.
Curtis
This is a hard assignment for me. since now I don't even know what i want to do or be in the near future. Can i just make up a story of what i want to be in the future?
Hoa
No visual aid or citation neccessary, unless it is a famous quote to set the modd or something...um, yes Hoa, MAKE IT UP! Get crazy with your imagination! Smiles--S
I have another question about the after dinner speeches. That is how much do the speeches need to follow the outline? The next question is do they need to be written and handed to you, Sandra, before getting up and speaking?
Curtis
Once in a while, the answer you want is the answer you get. Thanks Sandra !
Paul
I think rap is fine, for the those with a taste for it, but my old ears, are, as they say, old school.
I'm with Pink, Indigo Girls, Jackson Brown, and even U2... but I'm lost in the decibles when the base volume exceeds even the obscenity volume... lol.. thanks for the question, kelley
What a thrill. On behalf of our kind and understanding prof.,let us throw away the speech anxiety and look forward to an exciting after dinner reunion speech. This is just the way I feel.'If wishes were horses, beggers would ride.' Well they ride sometimes.I'm more worried about my seperation anxiety. I will sure miss the "blogging sensation" and all of you. I hope that as one door closes another will open. This is why we will be discussing today the imaginary door that opened as we said goodbye to our blog 20 years ago.See you there.

This class has really helped me a lot. Despite that I had a crazy semester, it was fun being part of the group. Thanks Sandra for all your assistance and support. I really appreciate them. And now that we are going to have a reunion after so many years, I hope to see all of you to let you know how I have used the public speaking skills I have learnt twenty years to enrich myself and others. until then a toast to a happy reunion!

That was a terrible thing. So sad that people could get killed trying to do the right thing.I believe this type of accident is what deter people from helping out when someone is in danger. I am always grateful to God everyday that I and my family leave our house and come back without anything happening to us. So sad and painful that people could leave their homes and never come back to them.
Hip, Hip, Hooray! Cheers to the ending of a wonderful semester. I have learned and enjoyed numerous public speaking skills from each and every one of you. Best wishes to all.

No outlines or written speeches required Curtis, thanks for asking--See you all in class, where I will be...OMD: 60 years old!!!!!! S
It has been a pleasure to see all of my old classmates. They pretty much look as I had pictured them The same jast a few more pounds and a little graying of the hair, but all and all they pretty much age gracefully. Thankfull to the nice life we live, because of the different doors that open to success because of our skill in speaking that we hone in public speaking 301 with our teacher Sandra Wheeler.
I am looking forward to talking to each and every one of you and trading excitation story of our journey to success.
Until then become now maintain.

As I once talked to Darcie that I learn a lot from all of you in this class not only good public speaking skills but also valuable experiences other than that from each of you in the class. Thank you Ms. Sandra, you helped and encouraged me to overcome the fear of of speaking in front of people. I would like to wish you all the good success.

I was just reading Kelly's comment about the important WHALE newsflash, and I cant believe there are WHALES in local rivers. I totally agree with what youre saying kelly, the interest in death is really sickening.

Like most of my classmates, I too would like to take the chance to once again thank each of you and especially Sandra for all that I have learned during this class. I can say that I have learned to overcome the fear of speaking, and that being nervous is OKAY. And that all comes down too... we simply learn from the BEST. *HI SANDRA* haha...
