I would like to learn more about the topic of travel, and interesting places that other student went before.
I would also like to hear what good restaurants in Sacramento that other students tried, or different types of cuisine.
I would also like to learn the personal finance of other students, like how they put their extra money to or investment plan.
Derrick Ho
I work with at risk youth for the past 10 years. So I would like to hear topics regarding: underage drinking and driving, teen pregnancy, and/or gangs.
I noticed on your previous blog topic regarding music containing derogatory lyrics in today's music. This would be very interesting to hear.
Lastly, I would like to hear others discuss the importance of being in a relationship or marriage. How do you maintain it?
Carla Quintella
With the generation gap between me and the other students (I’m 49 years old), it would be interesting to know whether they grew up in single-parent homes and, if so, how that has influenced their opinions about relationships and marriage. I’d like to know what their dreams were as children and whether they feel they are going to achieve their goals in life. Finally, I’d love to hear what their greatest challenge was and how they have overcome it.
I can’t imagine life without music and enjoy an eclectic blend. On any given day I might listen to opera (tenor Jussi Bjorling is a favorite), Radiohead, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Frank Sinatra, Mozart’s Requiem, Glenn Miller, Nine Inch Nails, Edith Piaf, Etta James, Eva Cassidy and old time radio shows (although not considered “music” per se).
The controversy regarding illegal immigrants from Mexico is close to my heart. My father’s family came to this country from Mexico, and most Americans don’t realize how very difficult it is to come here legally. The present laws make it a long wait (up to ten years), bureaucratic roll of the dice - - and when you’re poor and starving, you will do what it takes to make a better life for yourself.
I admire a number of more well-known people, but their lives are pretty much in the papers and there for all to see. Pertaining to this class, I admire the students who have come from other countries, and I would love to hear more about their lives and the differences between living in their homeland versus living in America.

COM 301, Saturday Class
I AM MOST INTERESTED IN HEARING ABOUT WHAT CALIFORNIA PLANS TO DO ABOUT THE UPCOMING WATER SHORTAGE THAT WILL HAPPEN IN A FEW YEARS AND WHAT RESIDENTS OF CALIFORNIA THINK SHOULD BE DONE TO FIX IT. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO LEARN ABOUT PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD TERRIBLE EXPERIENCES DURING CHILDHOOD AND THINGS THAT WOULD HAVE OR DID HELP THEM OVERCOME THOSE ISSUES. (EX: PARENTAL ISSUES, GANGS, TEEN PREGNANCY, ETC.) MY LIFE LONG DREAM IS TO OPEN A RECEIVING HOME FOR TEENS WHO HAVE SUCH ISSUES IN THEIR LIVES AND I WOULD LOVE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT ISSUES THAT MAY COME UP THAT I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED! ANOTHER TOPIC I'D LIKE TO HEAR MORE ABOUT ARE STOCKS AND BONDS; HOW TO TELL WHATS GOOD VERSE BAD IN INVESTING.
MUSIC IS MY LIFE. I HAVE A STRONG INTEREST IN JAZZ, PARTICULARLY NEWER RENDITIONS OF POPULAR SONGS. OTHER GENRES OF MUSIC I LISTEN TO FREQUENTLY ARE OLDIES, ALTERNATIVE ROCK, A LITTLE BIT OF POP, AND COUNTRY. I LIKE SOME RAP, BUT MOST GIVES ME A HEADACHE.
I DON'T REALLY ADMIRE PEOPLE FOR THINGS THEY HAVE DONE. I BELIEVE EVERYONE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE OUTSTANDING AND THOSE WHO FULFILL THEIR POTENTIAL ARE PEOPLE I ADMIRE. FOR ME, IT'S ABOUT WHO YOU ARE AS A PERSON NOT HOW FAR YOU'VE COME IN LIFE.

POSTED: 8/29/07
I am japanese and white but you guys wouldnt know by looking at me. I say that because Recently I am just so interested in the cultures of japan especially with Geisha.
I have a big issue about these stars like paris hilton and nicole richie only getting a couple of days in jail when any other people in the world could get up to six months for dui's or more.
And last but not least why are teachers so underpaid yet they are responsible for a lot of students success in life?
Deanna Bradac
I would like to hear other students speak about their favorite places to visit. Also about the hobbies that they participate in for example street racing, sports, or cooking. Lastly, I want to hear about peoples favorite foods.
A current event that I am interested in is the arguement over Barry Bonds and Steriods.
I am interested in music and cars (Scrapers, lowriders and muscle cars). Even though my car is not "tight"...I can dream. I guess this is the phase that im going through.
I admire Steve Young and have since I was six. He lives a clean life and he played for the Niners.
Sal Lopez
Hi this is Jasmin Fulkerson, I would like to hear some speeches on some controversal topics like abortion, the death penalty and President Bush. I think it will make the class more interesting.
I would like to learn more about others views and thoughts on the Real Estate slump, and if they have been or know of anyone who has been affected by this. Also, I am very interested in discussing different cultures and their views on family. Lastly, I am interested in any information on nutrition and diets that have been proven to work.Karyn Qualls tues/thurs comm class
I would like to hear the other students perspectives on our countries current situation in Iraq.
I would also like to discuss the overcrowding in our correctional institutions and some of the possible solutions for this problem.
I am deeply interested and passionate about aeronautics and admire Burt Rutan, inventor of space ship one.
Chris Bliss
This is Katherine Hall from the T/Th class. I would like to hear my fellow classmates speak their opinions on the current military presence in the Middle East, capital punishment and conscription, or "the draft."
I don't know if it is appropriate for class because it may be offensive, (I guess ANYTHING could be construed as offensive) but I am interested in people's opinions on same-sex marriages, being that they are recently deemed legal in Polk County, Iowa as well as in ten other states.
I truly admire celebrity philanthropists such as Angelina Jolie and Oprah Winfrey who share their success with those less fortunate than them, trying to make the world a better place by setting a good example.
I have my own opinions about these things and I believe that our generation is much more open-minded than previous generations and am excited to test my theory by hearing the opinions of such a diverse group!
I would like to discuss all current events. When people give speeches I would like for them to talk about themselves. It is interesting to learn about people.
Michael Gandara
T/Th class
I would love for my fellow students to make speeches on topics in technological advancement, current world and USA financial situations, and the latest in politics. I love hearing the latest news and what people think about them. I always want to hear at least two sides of the story so that I can make the better decision myself. The more informed the better the decision.
Hi, I would like to know the students views on ongoing war and conflict that has affected most of the people around the world and what we learn from it. Also, as home prices are going down, I would like to know on various investment options? What are the good options in short and long term.
And certainly, I would like to hear from others some of the best places they have visited in and their experiences. Nitin J.
I’m looking forward to hearing my fellow classmates speak about specific events that occurred and changed us (the populace) as a collective, but also changed them personally. For example, Columbine affected the victims of the shootings and their families, but it also may have changed the way one views a campus or prepares their child for school.
I’d also like to know how we each view preservation of historical sites and buildings. What kind of limitations should we put on builders and big business that look at the bottom line and not cultural significance?
Finally, what are we telling Hollywood by continuing to pay our $10 as a reward for regurgitated stories that are distributed to thousands of multiplex screens owned by 3 or 4 companies? Did we really need Rush Hour 3? Meanwhile, production companies that dare make films that can actually still be called art are relegated to independent theatres who themselves are fading fast. Aren’t we the viewers partially / mostly responsible?
I admire Dave Eggers for creating the non-profit 826 Valencia and its offspring. I also admire (er, I’m in love with) Sarah Vowell who makes me think and laugh and love and sigh with every line she writes.
James Brock
Saturday Class
Well, I don't really have any topics or questions of high value, I mean I can think of three questions off the top of my head such as,
Why can't certain celebrities be villified and exiled to some place far away, and this might be me being naive and Californian, but why are Californians so ...I don't want to say annoying, but annoying about enviromental hype, (and I dont even know if I really want an answer to that one, I just want to see if we [the class] hit on all the elements of that particular question). Lastly, I suppose, I would like to know there is a common connection between the 60-70's and now, and I'll just leave it at that, cause if I get started, there may not be an end after reading a few of these topic fuses.
jeremiah charan; saturday
I am so glad to be a part of this class.
I am actually interested in any topics since everything here is new to me. I have heard about the United States, about Sacramento a lot,I had even visited this country twice before I moved here. But to live here is still very challenge. I want to know as much as I can about this country, this city and people living here, their interests, their happiness and their worriness.
Peiyi Li
I'd like to hear about people's views/thoughts on politics today, as I'm currently taking pols 301.
I just moved here about 2 months ago, yet to discover much of Sacramento, so if anyone has suggestions on when and where to go, please tell me!
Persons of interest... James W. Loewen; His book ,The lies my Teacher Told me, influenced me enough for me to consider History as a possible major.
Johnston Nguyen
There are a vast amount of topics that I would like to hear insight on from the other students of the class, but if I were to pick a couple I believe they would be society change in moral standing when compared with that of a 100 years ago, the change in roles/responsibilities of today’s youth, as well as society's lack of encouragement towards that education but of entertainment. I would be more than willing to clarify if it is need, but I feel that is a sufficient explanation.
I too, love a wide range of music, and I am open to almost any form of music that does not depict anything immoral, or that is vulgar. Also I don’t enjoy music that is extremely hard rock, since I feel that music should be uplifting or expressive of whom you are as a person. I know that hard rock does express the feelings of some, but I like mine to be a little more upbeat since I tend to be an energetic happy person. To be specific I enjoy classical, alternative, some country (as long as it’s not too slow), pop, classic rock, Celtic, jazz, and many other forms of music. Ask me if you want me to go into greater detail.
There are several people that I admire in my life, but so many things have changed in my life in the past little while, that I don’t have someone in mind that I currently admire in such a way that I look to them as an example or someone to pattern my life after. This is something I am hoping to change, since I feel that is always good to have someone to look up to as a form of role model. However, lately I feel that I have started to admire qualities I see in people, and because they hold such qualities I find myself admiring them for it. I people that this is almost a better approach since we are all human, we all have good and bad things about us, and so in a way I think it helps us to value the praiseworthy qualities within the person.
Bryce Hayden
I would like to a hear a controversial topic for a current event such as the war. In addition, I am always interested in pop culture and how it affects society. This can be viewed from a number of different perspectives, including gender. Lastly, a person I admire and would like to know more about would be John Walsh, or anyone else who turns tragedy into triumph.
Kelli Rodriguez
I would like to learn about the career choices of the students in the class. I would like to know about past careers, present careers, and future career plans.
Secondly, I would like hear about one major like decision that a person has made. I would like to know how they feel it has effected them.
The final topic I wouuld like to hear spoken about is about marrige and divorce, and the opinions of how it effects children and family members involved.
I am interested in current events surrounding the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the position of the Army. I dont have one person I admire, i admire all of the soldiers who have devoted their lives to service, and the families that support them.
~victoria Davis
My interests are these: history, politics, social issues, cooking, gardening, parenting- but I realize that there are a whole lot of hobbies that are more "fun" (like music!) and I'm interested in learning what interests others have.
For current events, I'd love to talk about presidential candidates!
I don't know much about Latin America and I'd like to know more, so it would be an interesting topic for me to hear a talk on any prominent Latin American figure (ex: Che Guevara, Hugo Chavez).
Mary Boardman
I see it has been said a few times but, I would love to hear peoples views vital current events.
I would also love to hear speeches on people's childhood ,upbringing, and cultural differences.
I would also like to see us have a bit of fun with gossip rags by having a few mock debates about celebrity lives; ie Brad and Angelina ..Brittney spears hair or no hair and so on.
Kelly Bolderson

Raveen Sharma
I would like to hear someone give a speech on stand up comedy. I don't know if anyone in class is qualified, but i think it would be entertaining.
I agree with Raveen's outlook on religion. It is probably one of the most interesting institutions in existence, however, i find it interesting because it's a lot like the Vietnam war, everyone has an opinion about it.
I would also like to hear a seech about the materialism in today's society.
As far as music goes I'm up for anything with recognizable talent. Which pretty much means any genre except techno.

Hi, this is Maiker Yang from T/TH class. The topic that i would like to discuss in this fall sememster are people most embrassing moments in their life because everyone has gone through that and know how it feel like. Another topic that would be interesting is why do college students have to take GE courses? I don't see why we have to take those extra classes when it is wasting our time when we can go straight into our major, and only take the course that we need. So I think these two topics would be interesting topics for speech.
Hi everyone, this is Wanling Liang (Cherie) from Sat. class. I am a Chinese, and I have been living in the U.S.A for 3 years. By living in different countries, I have learned different cultures. It is so interested to share the differences with other classmates about what I had experenced. Thus, the first topic I would like to discuss with is different culturs other classmates know or they want to know.
The second one is the interesting places they have been or they want to go. I believe most people have a dream place want to go, it will be very interesting if we can share it with others.
The last but not the least. I would like to hear the current fiancial situation from fellow classmates. The U.S economic is not very good in the current years. Does this affect you or me? do you have a personal financial plan? Do you know how to invest money or save money? Do you really earning income when you put your money on saving, or you are losing because of the inflaction?
Once again, this is Cherie!! Hope every one will have a nice semester!!
I think polictics might be fun.
I also think spoken word would be really be cool if we could do that.
I would REALLY like to talk about music or films in this class, but mostly both.
Aaron Gomez

I would like to here why we all decided to go to city? What was it about city that made you want to go there.

My main interest or event is my wedding. I love planning weddings even though it may be stressful, it is alot of fun.
I admire my mother for being a single mother for 18 years. I know that I wouldn't be able to handle my kids on my own. My mother is a strong willed; hard working mother.
I would like to learn more about what other people in class think about the upcomming presidential elections, who they support and why.
I would like to know more about what some of the other students like to read in their off time, if they do.
I would like to know more about what the other students feel strongly about and what they think is not very important for them at this time in their lives.
Leah Gaston
i think it would be interesting to speak about something regarding the campus, since it would affect us in some way. one thing i really don't wanna cover is politics, because its one of the most overdebated topics ever. but i agree that music choices would be interesting to cover, or maybe more specifically radio stations.
----Colleen O'Neill, tuesday/thursday class
I would like to hear others opinions about health care and insurance costs in the US. I am also interested in hearing what people from different generations and cultures feel about the war in Iraq. Our group seems very diverse and I can't wait to hear more from different points of view.
Jessica Blocker
I would like to hear about what other classes the rest of the students are taking. College gives you a great chance to pick different classes as electives and some are better then others. Often times, different teachers make the classes easier to get through, while others are more difficult. I would like to learn more about this then anything else from the class.
Thanks
Jason Hieronimus
