Love of the Game: 6th Blog-aganza

Well, fall is in full swing and footbal season has arrived. Sports often provides metaphors for other spects of our lives. Visit http://knowgramming.com/metaphor.htm to learn more about metaphors and how to enhance your speeches with them, then creat one unique metaphor using footbal (or another fall/winter sport) to illustrate an idea about public speaking! Good luck and "go-fight-WIN!!!!!!" Smiles--Your (former cheerleader) teacher

I hope this makes sense. But I see football as a Persuasive speech. Football players have to play the game to win and prove at the end they are the best so when I make a persuasive speech I need to play to the audience interest and get them to see my points and if at the end are persuaded by my speech then I win. TOUCHDOWN!!!

Public Speaking is something I wish I could tackle head on. Although, I am just a rookie, my game plan is to follow Sandra's techniques, get through this course and wind up in the End Zone.

Before the game starts, we must first develop our play book. After two practices, our team has it down and the real practicing begins. Just before game time, we have a team huddle to calm our nerves; it's the first real game of the season. With our "shoes" in hand, we take the field.....after what seems like a long half, the clock winds down and we kick off our final play of the game. After the referee reviews the play, we come out victorious (with A's right...?)

I was a little metaphor happy... i hope it makes sense, i was talking about the group speeches.....

You got it--Take the ball and run with it now, Marian and Aida!

I go over and take a shot, hopefully I make a three. I know with coach's game plan, I'll make it through the season, even though this isn't my game, she will help me make it in.

Public speaking is like football in many ways, you can't be afraid to get dirty and/or hurt because you do what it takes to score that touchdown! Karyn Qualls

i think the best speeches keep the audience entertained and sports is also a way to entertain but when you put sports and speeches together its not exactly tackling the laughs.

Public Speaking is an offensive line-man. Big, scary, and smelly up close but necessary if you don't want to be sacked.(in life)

When the game starts as a football player my job is to make my crowd happy by winning. When Im making a speech the audience expects not to fall asleep with my specch so my job is to entertain and inform as well as to kkep them happy.

"Focus is keeping your eye on the ball." -- I think this applies to our speeches and the fact that we must support our thesis with our main points throughout the speech and not veer off on tangents. In addition, I think it means being aware of your audience and not losing their attention, but making it meaningful to them.

The speaker is the quarterback (Steve Young) who must pass the ball (information) to a receiver,Jerry Rice (audience). If the receiver catches(agrees) this ball(info.) then the result is a touchdown(persuasive speech).

Being in a public speaking class group is a lot like being on a sport team. Each player has their own unique talents and skills to assist in wining the game. After huddling up and developing a gamelan we should be able to pull together and really knock this one out of the park.

Life can be a lot like football or in many ways any sport. Often you can't see where the hit/tackle is going to come from, but if it knocks you down. The important part is to pick yourself up, learn from it, avoid it next time, and push yourself towards the goal/end zone.

A speech is like your favorite basketball team. Even if it's good someone still thinks it sucks.

My speech is a July locker room after two-a-days... it stinks. And, there's a lot of uncomfortable nudity.

Knowing your play book is the equivialant to how well you've prepared for a public speaking event. If you haven't prepared yourself properly, you won't know where to go, and sometimes being one step out of place can be the difference between a game winning touchdown and stumbling over your own feet.

Public speaking is like a football game, ready to win the audiences attention. The players would show their skills, talents, strength, and each individual personality to show audiences who's the best player on the field. By being the best player on the field, he will win the audiences attention and be remember. For example, scoring the final touch down in a game audiences will always remember who the player was and what he did. Just like in a speech toward the conclusion always give the audiences something excited that they will never forget!

The concept of Football game and public speach is similar to me. The the purpose of public speach is to diliver message to our audient, just as we have to use different strategies to deliver the ball to the end zone. If we cannot deliver the ball to the end zone, means our audient cannot understand us~ so... we lose. However, we want to win, thus, we have to prepare for the game and for the speach~

My speeches are like a football game in the fact that, people assume I am
wearing shoulder pads .....and a cup when I am giving them.
They are also like a football game because when I get home from class my family dumps a bucket of gateraid on my head.

Ps: Sorry class for the poke a !@#$ comment in class on Thursday, I was informed by my sisters that that was very inappropriate to say in class and disrespectful to the actual Pocahontas.

Public speaking is a 101 yard touchdown return.

Your nerves are tense as the opposing team kicks off, but once you make the catch, run the length of the field, and avoid the oncoming tackles, you're relieved it's all over and you scored.

TOUCHDOWN!

I may need some time to learn more about football game since it's pretty new for me.

To me, public speeking is more like dancing, non-verbal delivery of information. It can be either informtional or entertainable. The highlight part of the dance is the attention-getter. If the attention-getter is eye-catching, you win half of the dance.

A football game is like my life, and my favorite team the RAIDERS. We're always wining at the half but end up losing the game, but no matter how many losses you must play again the next week. You always have hope cause you can always start over, like a new season. So never be to happy when your winning or to down when your losing. Stay grounded and keep running the ball. Watch for penalties cause their just like cops. If theres only one second left throw the hail mary and hope for the best.

The quater back is like the coach on the field he then helps his players which are the ones who must try and make a touchdown to get the audience into the game

John Madden would be the one to deliever a thesis like a play on the field. Giving the thesis/play to his player, so they can act on it to win the game!!

Andrew says,

Although football is a team sport every person on the field has his own job to do. The class is our team and each of us has to do our jobs for our to be succesful

Public speaking and sports have a lot in common. For one, you can always tell if someone has gone over their playbook/notes before gameday because it shows in their performance. Of course practice makes perfect and with my practice i'd like to hit a home run with my speech

Football is like life. Either you have to catch the ball and continue on with whatever you are trying to accomplish, or you let the ball drop on the 4 yard line and give up.

You gotta have a gameplan (your outline) a coach (teacher)and practice is always key but when game time comes your preperation is only half the equation you still have to go out there and do it in front of the roaring fans "audience". You could "fumble" over your words or nail the perfect speech with a "touchdown" or you could be half-assed and lazyily get it done "field goal!!"
