Blog # 9: Compliments make the world a Better Place!
For this posting, please type up 5 sentences minimum describing a speech you enjoy during the informative presentations, include the speaker's first name and something you think they did particularly well. For an extra point, compare them to a celebrity or rock star, based on similiar performance traits they share. If you are ever having a bad day, recognizing some one else for something cute they are wearing or something they do well will ALWAYS make you feel better! --The Masked Blogging Complimenter

Blog #8: Nerves and Speaking in Public: YIKES!!!
I like the word "Yikes." As you get ready to make your informative speeches, remember--they should be 5-7 minutes, include 2 full citations, 2 bibliographic sources--listed in a mini-"works cited" or "reference section" at the bottom of your outline, one visual aid, a complete outline with all the details, including written-out transitions. Try to memorize your introduction. That is usually the part that makes people the most nervous...so for this blog, use the word "yikes" and tell us about what you do when you get nervous and how you plan to avoid doing this "nervous (yikes) behavior" when you make your fabulous, provocative, compelling informative speech and change the face of the world as we know it with all of your fancy "information!!!!!"

301 Mid Term: Steve Jobs Speech on You Tube
For this portion of the take-home mid term, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60cDHb-tvMA and watch the speech a couple of times (it's interesting and kind of funny, hope you enjoy it!) Next, provide examples of any of the elements from our class outline you hear/see demonstrated in his speech from attention getter to memorable ending and all the stuff in between, give complete sentence answers and examples for each component,
ie: The speaker captured the audience's attention by dancing with the clown in a weasel costume.
I would like these hand-written, neatly, in your own fabulous penmenship, please. Muchisima gracias mis amigos! Due for T/Th students this coming Thursday 10/18, or this coming Saturday, 10/20. No late papers (papeles tardes) ! Post any questions below please--S

Get Ready 4 The Midterm: Good times and Sharing
Okay--Let's talk about he midterm--anyone wnat topsot their notes to share with the Tues/Thurs class mates who need them? Saturday students may want to discuss questions about any of the book chapters you've read so far. I'll keep an eye out and make sure to respond before you take the test: Remember it is short/casual essay style (write an intro/body/conclusion and use as many of the conventions of our class-speech outline as you can in your essay, identifying them please) between 2-3 pages, at least one drawing (stick figures are fine) as an example, use as much vocabulary as you can from either the bold terms in the textbook (Sat students) or the notes you took in class (T/Th), underline each term you use in the essay...The "artifact" for your essay will be given in the begining of class on either 10/13 (Saturday) OR 10/16 (Tuesday) --an artifact is an object of study, so I will read or show you a speech and have you use your materials and "rhetorical invention" to discuss it in your midterm essay. Colored paper/felt markers/etc are welcome, as are videotapes or sound recordings if you can prepare them during class time. Each person should do their own work please--Questions anyone????? go here for philosophical inspiration... http://youtube.com/watch?v=F16X_AoVd9I

Mid Term Blog
As we get ready to take the 301 Mid Term, I find myself fondly reflecting on the first half of...Oh who are we trying to kid, let's get this Dog and Pony Show out of the way so we can hear more outrageous, inspirational and down-right moving speeches, right? RIGHT??? Ok, this week's blog, should you choose to accept it, requires grace, skill and tact...Use a complete transition in order to talk about two students in the class as though they were two of your main points in a speech...focus on the strengths of both speakers or something you like about each of them...
FOR EXAMPLE: "OKay, so now that I have told you about how well Andrew can operate the video cart, let me move on to my second point: Aida's oscar-winning acting skills." Your turn!!!
