BLOG 6: The week after...

Well, break is over, it went by too quickly and now we turn to serious scholarly concerns...NOT!!!! Let's do a fun CHAIN- blog about visual aids. They should be big enough to see, not too busy and fairly professional looking. They should not remain up for your entire speech, yet long enough to be seen and make impact. They should be printed or typed in simple, clear and clean fonts and they should add emphasis to your spoken message. What would a good visual aid be for a speech about the weather? Whoever answers has to throw out the next topic in their blog, ok? Try and get creative here people, I know we are all still mentally on the beach!!! Smiles--S

Well, Summer is almost here, we can have the weather forcast wearing their bikini or the three shape underwear as a visual aide to let us know that it will be hot.

Depending on what you are speaking about regarding children you could do several different types of visual aids. Children's toys are always good aides because they can be interactive. A life-size picture of the child if you are speaking about one in particular because it would make that child more real.

Next Person--What would be a good visual aid for traffic safety.

Geraldine Young

A good visual aid for traffic safety would be, if space allows, a car that has been in a really bad vehicle accident. Not only does it pop and get your attention, but you can use it to stress the parts of your speach that talk about safety and preventive measures. Although this would be hard to bring to class, i think it would make your presentation great. Next person--What would be a good visual aid for a speech about native California animals.

Anonymous said...

Native California animals? How did I get stuck with that? (Just kidding- sort of). Anyway, as someone who is not the least bit interested in that subject, I would be most attracted to poster-sized color prints of the animals or perhaps even some skeletal remains of the animals such as teeth or a skull. I feel that a good visual aid can make the subject more appealing to those who may not otherwise be interested. What would be a good visual aid for a speech about March Madness?

A good visual aid for a speech about doctors could be a lab coat or a stethescope. Or, depedning on what exactly the speech was about (maybe on what a difficult profession it is), a graph on a posterboard or Powerpoint could depict the amount of debt MD's usually have upon completion of med school, or their divorce rate, or depression/suicide rate. The speech giver would, obviously, need to have accurate statistics to make a graph/visual aid timely and relevant.
