What a fun storytelling experiment, you guys crack me up!!! Ok, this week let's focus on speaking informatively, if you have coms 301, that is your next speech, if you are in 361, you'll learn about it and build on this style to create persuasive reports. Informative speech topics should be dynamic, timely, unique and fairly entertaining when applied to classroom audiences such as your bright, discerning selves. Sometimes coming up with a bad topic (REALLY BAD. like funny it is so bad) helps us avoid them and keeps it light so you can relax and see your way to a good idea for a fabulous speech or report. What, in your opinion, would be the worst possbile informative speech topic, and why? Ok, what is a topic you'd enjoy learning more about? REMINDER: Lazy bloggers, this means u! Read the other responses first, duplicate answers won't be counted, come up with something original! I'll go first: A terrible topic for me to have to grade would be: The Infield Fly Rule in Baseball, because it is obscure and confusing and too narrow and specific for a whole speech...I would love to learn more about current music trends and artists since I don't stay up with that like I used to and I don't want to be a geeky old parent listening to bad 80's glam rock or something....HELLPPP!!!!!

The worst informative speech topics would have to be about death penalty and abortion. These two controversial issues have been debated over and over the years that it's pointless to try to persuade people about them. I think people want to learn or hear about something that is/are new to them. How's this for a topic- Colleges should expand "Spring Break"???
I would have to say the worst informative speech for me would be about how computers work. I feel that the tech lingo hard to understand, so I tend not to pay attention when someone tries to explain about ROMS?, and the such. I would like to learn more about creative writing, the film we saw on Monday Night has sparked an interest for me.-Kathy Sameron
Ok since I work in an office and just recently saw the movie "Office" which is hillarious even more to me now, I would have to say the worst informative speech would be about efficient office supplies: printers, scanners, fax machines, pens, folders, paper... whatever? I had to attend an orientation and herad a speech like this and fell right to sleep.
I would love to hear about the new upcoming movies this summer! View trailers maybe even get to meet some cast that would be lovely! No way I would ever fall asleep.

Smoking is the worst informative speech topics for me because it is a common sense factor that everybody should know that it is bad for you. I think i want to learn more about how we should decrease crime rate in US. Safy issues is a very important factor for the US citizens especially like me

I DO NOT want to hear a speech about being politically correct. I think we spend so much time trying not to offend anyone these days that our true messages are lost in translation.I would, however, be interested in hearing a speech about how one's weight impacts how others communicate with her. I'm fascinated with how much physical appearance has a bearing on our life experience in America.

As for me, the worst informative speech topic would "Pyramid business." Why? First of all, it's irritating...the audience already know what the intention of the whole speech is about, (to recruit people into their business, or sell a product). And second of all, it's boring and a WASTE of time. Something that would be interesting for me would be beauty care or skin care. Why??? Because I care about my image and taking care of myself. One more thing, the more info about beauty care is always good 'cause the products are always improving.

i think the worst informative speech that i could hear about would have to be about abortion. i dont know how many times i have heard both sides of it and it just gets to be too much sometimes. people who are for it try to get the people who dont support it to support it and vice versa. it just ends up being one bi argument.

I think the worst informative speech for me would have to be something relating to politics. It's to controverial. There's too many supporting/opposing arguments to consider.

the worst informative speak i think would have to be on religion. way to broad a topic. plus so many religions which one to choose from would becomae an issue. as well as itd feel like someone was forcing beliefs.

pyramid business was mine, so i would have to say that the 2nd worst informative speech would have to be about chaos theory. my math professor tried to explain, and its one of those things no one really fully grasps, so trying to explain it is in my eyes useless, because you will always be wrong. an informative speech should tell me something i will be affected by, those topics are endless. economy, politics, anything but chaos theory

The worst topic for me would be immigration I totally don't know much about it and like the only thing I can think of for it is without it we wouldn't have fez on that 70s show,a topic I wouldn't mind hearing others talk about is fashion because being into fashion I love to hear different peoples takes on it
The worst informative speech would be anything related to the war in iraq too broad, controversal, and too many sides to satisfy...On the other hand I would like to hear something about kids and the negative perception that kids are subjected to from the disney movies, that I have been hearing about.Do others feel the same way, or is it just coicidence?

The most absolute worst subject for me to give an informative speech on would CHEMISTRY. I just do not understand it's abstract concepts. I would enjoy learning about the music. Since I learned music "by ear," I think it would be interesting to see how the pro's do it.

The worst informative speech topic for me would be about the benefits of working for a union versus non unionized. As for me, I hear a lot about this at work and also in econ, so it wouldn't interest me to hear about it again in Comms. Something that I would find interesting would be about crime rates, or life in prison. I know people who works in prison so it's just something that interest me.

I am sorry to say but for me, the worst informative speech topic would be about nutrition. From the beginning of time when a child first starts school, nutrition is already introduced. We hear about all the time. Infact, everyone knows about good nutrition but chooses not to follow only. There's really no point to try to inform once again.
Some interesting informative topic would be near death experiences from experiencing suicides, drunk driving, and drug uses.

The worst informative speech for me would be about how to sports cars or something about fast cars. Although I do understand some people like cars, I just can't bear to hear a mintue about which car is faster than which. Id rarther hear something about learning some alternatives to driving to save gas. Because, with the gas prices going up, I really care about the mpg rarther than the look of a car.

The worst informative speech for me would be on teen pregnancy. We already know there are a lot of teens getting pregnant already. What I would be interested in in learning about the life of people who works in the circus. It's interesting to see how their life is like moving from place to place to perform for others.

I agree with Por! I REALlY don't want to hear anything about "Pyramind schemes," but, maybe that topic would be considered persuasive anyway. I also don't care very much to hear what others think about the war and politics. I get enough of that from the in-laws! So, to come up with an original anti-info-speech topic...
How about something really obvious, that everyone pretty much knows like "How to Drive a Car." Topics like that should be avoided because they would not offer anything truly new to the (community college age) audience. Also, I personally would be horrified if I had to sit through a speech about hunting or fishing since I am very opposed to those activities. I don't think that makes them poor topics, per se, just not my thing.
I am very interested in all things medical, especially dramatic medical stories. So, I would very much enjoy an informtaive speech on nearly any medical procedure or experience.

I think the worst informative speech I'd want to listen to would be about how to use the computer. I would hate to sit there learning how to turn on and off a computer and how to use a mouse and click things.
I'd LOVE to listen to how to mix drinks. Like bartender status. I'd help a lot at parties. Haha.

I think the worst informative speech topic for me would be, child birth. It is something a man will never experience in the phyisical sense. I could be well educated on he facts and informating surrounding a mother giving birth to a child but also at the same time be comepletely clueless. Because I can never actually give birth to a child if any women were in the crowd I'd feel like fish out of water. I think any good inffrmative speech topic would include something your interested in, can experience first hand or relate to.

Colin McAteer--The worst topic to pick for an informative speech would have to be the topic of how to insert an ink cartridge into a printer. This would cause the speaker, as well as the audience, to die from boredom. A informative speech topic should have something to do with a particular passion and not something people have to do out of necessity. People want to learn, but not about daily life events. The topic should be informative and fun.
The worst informative speech topic for me would have to be about Country music. I absolutely hate that type of music. I grew up around it and it drives me crazy. No real rhymn or reason but it does. One topic I would find extremely intersting would be how and why people become serial killers. The psychological aspects of it truly fascinate me. Always has. I think it boils down the choices we all make day to day.

An informative speech that I would hate, and upset me much, would be someone trying to inform people of how gangs are protected by the first amendment. I understand and support people's right to gather, but street gangs have for years been the cause of nothing but crime. They are the cause of several deaths, drug sales, drug use, and several other crimes that stem from them. An informative speech that I do want to hear is how they can put injunctions on street gangs and keep them from gathering in public places.

I think the worst informative speech topic would be on nascar in general. i dont see how anyone can be interested in watching 500 laps of left turns? its so boring and i would hate to have to listen about it. a topic i would like to listen to would be on cricket, i have always wanted to know the rules and how the game works. just something im sort of curious about.

The worst informative speech topic to me would be about STD'S. STD'S is a touchie subject and people have to deal with their stupid mistakes everyday. People who are virgins or people who have sex and have never had to experiance a STD might not think the subject is lame but it is. The issues overall should be discussed with a patient and doctor only. I mean just imagine someone having to go to class the next day after finding out they recieved a sexually transmitted disease, and then a student making a informative speech on how stupid someone could be for having sex with someone and recieving a STD. That would hurt big time. So thats why i think that is the lamest informative speech ever because its possible for every human to be able to recieve an STD. I would like to learn more about infusion hair weaving because i am a hair stylist and anyone who knows how to infuse hair makes 1000-5000 dollars a head. A topic that would not be good for me would be anything that has to do with math. Math is just boring. Now a topic I would love is celtic music, I know very little about it and saw a music performance on TV once, it looked very interesting.
I think the worse informative speech would be on table manners. Who cares which fork is meant to be for a salad or which spoon is for soup. As long as I don't use my hands and feet to eat or make a mess out of myself, everything should be fine! I want to enjoy my food, not try to figure out how to eat it.

The worst informative speech would be about Why Congress is getting involved with the baseball steroids scandal. I'm a baseball fan, GO GIANTS, but I am sick of hearing about Congress getting involved with baseball to help clean it up,while spending MILLIONS OF TAX PAYERS MONEY. I don't think anyone cares about baseball needing Congress to get involved. What people would want to hear about would be a speech on how EATING ICECREAM CAN HELP YOU LIVE LONGER!!!

For me the worst possible topic for an informative speeach would have to be about how "Equilibrium maximizes producer and consumer surpluses"zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz boring see what I mean.
On the other hand an informative speech on on getting kids to clean up after themselves without being hounded every minute, would simply be awesome and I would be enthralled by it.

I totally agree with k.saechao's comment in regards to spring break! haha As for me, the worst informative speech would have to be anything that deals with REALITY TV. I dunno, I feel like so much of is staged or a way for some to get their 15 min of fame. Instead, not to get too political, but I would want to know more of what goes on in the White House and/or within the government and seek the real truth!

I think the worst topic to speak about is anything specific to science. Such as the break down of a molecule. haha I just do not find that to be very interesting. I have never been a fan of my science classes. All that stuff kind of goes over my head. =P I guess its not the worst subject you could speak about but its not very informative to me.

I agree that abortion and the death penalty are probably the worst topics and two of the issues I would never bring up unless I'm ready for an 8hr argument-I was however very intrigued by these same two when a prof. asked us to be on the opposing sides of what we believed- I had concrete opinions about the two and I had to detach from them and learn all my oppenents beliefs and ideas-that was one of the most informative things I had ever done in my life- that would be a great topic- inavative techniques to become more acceptant of the changing world around us. It seems like it changes at light speed and we aren't adjusting-We are so instinctive and judgmental- how much better off would we be if we could figure out how to put all that aside and allow yourself to become a better human being.

I think one of the worst imformative speech topics would have to be about the game of soccer. My husband watches GOL tv, which is a channel dedicated to soccer, all the time and I absolutely can not stand it. Although I sometimes enjoy watching him playing at his soccer games I can not stand to see it on tv because to me it's as boring as baseball. Something I would like to hear a speech about would be about outer space, with only so many people who have got to leave our earth and go into space but who have only gone so far outside of it. I would love to learn about black holes and lightyears.

Honestly, I don't think that there's really such thing as a bad topic for an informative speech... unless its really boring. Even if I disagree with the speaker, its intresting to hear their views and opinions on a certian topic... even if its totally rediculous. A disagreement might lead to a good debate, which is something I would like to enjoy learning more about. I like to argue!

It depends on the audience that you are speaking to...if you are talking taxes to Accountants, they will find your speech very informative and intersting, but if you give that same speech to a group of elementary aged school children, it will bore them to tears.
So for me, I think the worst informative speech would have to be one on politics.

Ahhh, The worst Informative speech topic would be about school. We are already sitting in class, we dont need to hear how school sucks or how school will have a big impact on your future..We now that already thats why we are sitting here...LOL I would love to hear about fashion and what nots on it.
