Visit the above website.Watch both short videos and listen to the short analysis. Then tell us here how that went for you, but don't give away the "tricks!" WHOA! --perception is unreliable--if we don't expect to see something, we often miss it! Sound and smell too! Have you ever had a cold and lost your sense of smell? It effects EVERYTHING...by eliminating one sense we can experience the others or become more aware of them. Try closing your eyes and walking around the house--does it seem like a different place? OR try putting in earplugs and watching your favorite music video--weird huh? In short--our senses are not just objectively and naturally finding and reporting info to our brains....actually we, as individual "self's" are using selective attention to "choose" where to look, what to listen to and where to touch a door to open it. IT's a crazy world, right? (It's not just me!?!)

Hello- I watched both videos twice, the second video with the gorilla was interresting. I did notice the gorilla at first but the other two changes I didnt notice them until i was told of them. Also when i counted how many times the ball was passed I was off by one both times.I noticed how the first video clip has sound and the second video clip had no sound that was a little different but still both were amazing.
When watching the first video I counted how many times the ball was passed right on the nose. But when they asked me to watch for the special effect which i wont metion for those who have not watched it yet, i still didnt see the special illusion on perception both times. Maybe someone can give me a point to help me. Otherwise both eye openers on how much we miss when we only focus on certain things and how when we focus on specifics, its the little yet subtle changes that we miss, not just in these excercises but also in life!

Its me againg watched the first video again for the third time and I saw the bear!!! yeah!! Zakiyyah
I've seen these videos before. I remember a while back one of my friends had posted them on Facebook. I must say the first time I watched it I got the number of passes correct, but I did not see the "trick" until the video revealed it afterwards.
Don't judge me, but I have tried walking around my house before with my eyes closed for fun. Weird, yes I know. But it does seem like a completely foreign place. I was hitting furniture and running into railings and what not. It is weird how our brains work. Just proves that there are many ways to look at the same thing. It's all about perspective.
wow i watched both videos and it was crazy.I was able to catch everything while counting. It is not hard but it is tricky because while you watch it once you don't really look for the illusion. The bear on the first one or the monkey and the curtain change in the second video. It was awesome.
-Jeffrey Kelly-
It is weird walking around the house with my eyes close. I kept running into the wall and furniture. neverr doing that again.
Zakiyyah that is true we miss alot while focus only on one thing. so true what you have said in your post good job. -Jeffrey Kelly-
Before I watched the first movie, i just knew that there would be a catch to it because it was about perception. So when the video told us to count how many times the people in white shirt passed the ball. I didnt pay attention to how many time they passed the ball. instaed I was paying really close attention to how they passed the ball. And whan the video was half way and it asked if i saw the bear. I thought, "BEAR! There was a BEAR!" and it rewind it and there was a bear. I felt like my attetion was drawn to something else thats why i missed it.
So when i watched the second video. I made sure that i was paying attention to see if any other thing would come into the movie and i was happy that i caught the gorrilla. Until i found out that I missed the student from the black team going out and the curtain changing. I guess you decide what your awareness is. And when your so focus into what you happened ends up to a different outcomes. But those two videos made me realize that when you think you realize perception plays a big part. You notice and see things differently from others. Thats what i noticed from watching the movie and looking at other students respond.

When I watched the first video, I was so concentrated on counting the ball being passed that I didn’t notice the bear. I was too focus on counting the ball being passed, so I neglect the surroundings. During the second video I notice not only the how many times the ball is passes, but I also saw the gorilla walking across the room. This time, I did not notice two other things that took place.
I tried walking around my house with my eyes closed; it feels weird because you think that you know the house well. But once my eyes were closed, I have to walk slower and tried to feel my surroundings so I don’t hurt myself.

I did not catch it in the first one, but figured the second would be like it. I saw it.
I was correct on the count both times.
As far as closing my eyes and trying to wander the house, I had to hold out a hand to the wall to feel my way.

For the first video, I got the number of passes right but I missed the trick. Then for the second video, I got the number of passes right and I saw the first "trick" but I missed the other 2 "tricks". It was cool to watch this video because it made me realize how I notice certain things and miss other things that I don't pay attention to.

I watched both videos and its amazing on the first I did not notice anything other than what I was looking for until it was brought to my attention. The second video I knew what to expect so I payed attention, but I still missed some other things because my mind was only on what I should have been looking for. I guess what I got from it is when communicating you must pay attention to everything or you just might miss something.
The first video, I laughed and had to watch it twice to catch it all. Made me really realize that when I focus on something, I lose everything else. I did get the numbers right, though!
Then in the second video, I thought I was a smarty pants, and I got both the number of passes AND the gorilla correct. But I did miss the color changing curtain and missing player. I could sense that something was different, but I was overstimulating myself trying to catch it all.
It was very interesting though.
Well in the first video I missed the Gorilla, but watching it again it looked like another guy in a hoodie so it makes sense that I would miss that. The second video I have no excuse for because while I noticed the Gorilla that looked like a gorilla I missed everything else.I concentrated on the obvious but still missed things.Very tricky!-Devin Kearns
These are very interesting videos. I got the amount of passes correct but did not notice the new addition. I now agree that if we're trying to pay attention to something specifically (such as the number of passes) we do not notice anything else that occurs.
In the second video, I actually noticed the new addition. However, I did not notice the other changes. I guess I was expecting the same trick as the first video but did not realize that there would be more than one.
But I do agree that we only select certain things that stick out and pay most attention to it.
Kim Lieng Kel
I'd seen a similar video before, so I already had an idea what to expect. However, if I hadn't known and didn't actively anticipate something out of place appearing, I would have missed it entirely, and I did miss it the first time I saw a video like that.
Whenever I have a cold, I tend to lose both my sense of smell and taste, so food tends to be an afterthought. When you can't smell or taste food, you really have no way to distinguish between different types apart from consistency.
-Alex Carlson
I watched both videos but the first one was really funny to me. I didnt notice the bear moon walking at all until the video pointed it out to me. It is very interesting and crazy how our perception allows us to only see what we want to see or how we can be so focused on one thing that we dont notice anything else thats around it, even if it is right in front of us. However, in the second video I did notice the bear because I already had the expectation of seeing something that I wouldnt have noticed the first time. But I still didnt notice the player leaving or the curtain changing which was interesting too.
Lampel Ruiz
Kim Leing Kel, I did the same exact thing as you when in the second video I only noticed the bear and not the curtain or the player leaving. Your not the only one who got fooled twice. It is definately all about perception.

That was awesome! When I watched the first video I was so watching and expecting the ball to disappear to something tricky like that so I completely missed the moon walking bear.
In the second video I was counting but I realized it wasn't so much about the number of times the ball was passed. I was paying attention to the other things going on. I saw the gorilla but missed everything else!
Great videos, this was a fun blog! =)
Vanessa Monsibaiz
In the first video, I was so caught up in counting the passes and didn't notice the gorilla passing by at all. Compared to the second video, I was kind of expecting something similar to happen so I was able to count the passes and notice the gorilla. But, the curtain changing colors did cross my mind a little bit because I sensed something odd but couldn't figure out what it was. I was focused on the other aspect of counting too much.
Quang Nguyen
Lampel Ruiz,
I agree! We're just so focused on looking for a new person to come in that we got fooled twice.
Kim Lieng Kel
I really enjoyed both videos. In the first one, I did not catch the gorilla because I was so focused counting the passes that I totally missed the moon walking bear. It was funny to see the gorilla when I watched the video the second time.
During the second video I was totally alerted to watch more things. I counted 14 passes and noticed the gorilla, but I still missed the curtain color and the player leaving. I agree with most of my classmates that we can miss a lot when we focus attention in something specific. Yes, We could call Perception a magic illusion.
Armida G. Lee
I saw the title before I watch the first video and because my computer monitor setting was
so dark that I could not spot the gorilla before I turn the brightness up and that was after the third time I watched the actions(two times after the hint!).
I did catch all the changes for the second video at once because of the personal reference in objects. So I believe that I had a great chance to miss lots of changes because the first video's influence in the perception.

when I watched the first video I got the number of passes correct but I never saw the moon walking bear. I think I didn't see the bear because of how fast paced the passes were and I was to busy paying attention to that and not the whole picture.
When I watched the second video I got the number of passes correct and I saw the gorilla but I didn't see the curtains change color. I think I didn't see them change color because I was focused on the passes and not the background and the only reason why I saw the gorilla is because the passes were very slow paced passes. It really is amazing how much detail you can miss in life if you aren't paying attention to the full picture.
Kevin Rorke
I wish to report these videos to the Demon Magic Committee! I watched the first video and guessed the number of passes correctly, but that tricky moon-walking monkey got the best of me. In the second video, I made a goal to guess the correct amount of passes while spotting the ape. Once again I have been deceived! This proves how much we focus on a certain thing and miss everything else.
-Dan Phan
Such a great experiment in preception!!!! WOW. I completely missed the bear it was so wierd.... Then I thought I got the second one and was totaly wrong. It really makes me think about what we can miss just driving down the road!
I worked for a bank and we had training in "noticing" things in case of a robbery. This is a great example of how much we can miss when paying attention to what we "expect" to see.
Kim Ramm
I didn't realize the bear in the first video, and I laughed at myself when they pointed it out at the end because it was SO obvious! After that, when I watched the second video, I made sure I tried counting the amount of passes AND pay attention to any interference from anything. I laughed when the gorilla popped up because it was completely obvious. I thought it was a joke/spoof video making fun of the first one, until they explained how there were other changes that happened that I (again) totally did not notice!I was kind of freaked out.
-Maggie Cabrey
its amazing how these videos keep on tripping me up. on the first video i got the right number of passes but i missed a crucial element. what bothers me so much is that i knew it was comming but i got so focused with counting the passes that i totaly forgot about it. on the second video i mis-counted the number of passes and also missed two key crucial elements. i am so annoyed that i can miss things that sound so easy to get.
-neal vickers
I was tricked! Watching the first video made me try to pay more attention to the second one. although i was paying more attention, perception still got the best of me. I noticed both the gorilla and the person on the black team leaving but was not focusing on the whole stage changing color. These videos show that everyone looks at things differently. It's crazy to see how when we focus on one this we completely miss something else. I thought this was such a cool video and experiment I showed my dad and explained to him what this video had to do with class and he was also amazed to see how easy our focus can be drawn to something else and taken away so easily.
-Michael Arredondo
Like everyone else, I was blind to everything else except for the ball count. I totally missed everything else until the video was replayed.
The second video, I was really into the ball count and looking for the gorilla. The count was perfect and I spotted the gorilla. Yay me... yeah right! I missed the other 2 changes in this clip! We get focused on one thing and we tend to miss out on other details. We lose a lot of details in life when we become so focused on something and forget about our surroundings.
The video clips reminded me of the movie, "Employee of the Month."
Vince and Zack are competing to see who would be employee of the month. In a competition for the fastest cashier, Vince threw items into the basket without scanning them. Vince had won the competition until the security pointed out his cheating using the security tapes. No one saw what he did. Without the security, he would have won...

O man haha. Well I was glad to say I saw the gorilla in both videos but I messed up counting the passes. I got distracted both times. I tried to focus on my counting in the second video but that didn't turn out too well either. While trying to count, unfortunately I didn't notice the other stuff either. But to give myself benefit of the doubt, I knew something was off but couldn't pin point it. I realized I focus more on what stands out then on the task at hand, not sure if that has to do with my attention span. :)

I didn't noticed that one clip has sound while the other doesn't until I read the comments. In the 1st clip, I didn't see the moonwakling. I saw that strange guy but I didn't notice what was he doing. The Gorilla is easy to see but then I missed the one who left the game.
When I close my eyes and walk in the house, I need to use my hand to know where I want to go. It's not hard for me because I used to do it manytime before ^^. however, I can only walk close to the walls.
It's hard to analyze everything happen in front of our eyes. We can see some points but we may miss others. When we focus on one thing, we can miss others.
However, I still believe that with practice, sometime we can focus more than one thing. Just like learn to play piano with both hands.

Watching the first video I followed the directions and watch the ball get passed to the white shirt players. I was so focus that I didnt realize that a bear walked by. He ws sort of camuflaged by the black shirt players. The lightening in the room was sort of dark and so many moving around of the players that all my eyes were doing was trying to keep up and trying not to loose the ball. the bear was like another player in on the black team.
In the second video I played closed attention to the gorilla as to the white team players. I didnt even think about may-be something else is going on. Sometimes when we are so focused on one thing or on one person we dont see other things around us. If the person in the video said something about being aware of our surrounds and watch for things then in our mind we would be aware and watch out for changes. I though I saw a change in the cutain color but was so focues to counting and gorilla that I kind of ignored the curtain and missed the black team player leaving. -Olga Fanina
I have never watched any of these videos, in the first videos i missed the moon walking bear, however in the second video i saw the gorilla, maybe it was because the first video the passes was more intense, and the second video the passes was slower, or maybe i was already expecting something to happens in the second video. I got both of the numbers of passes right for both videos.
I wanted to test out my sense of hearing, haha, (my hearing is pretty bad) so i closed my eyes and tried to listen to thing around me, surprisingly i heard my sister talking on the phone from 3 rooms down. when i open my eyes and not really focusing on my hearing, i could barely hear my sister talk. I also tried to walk around with my eyes closed, i bumped into things and got frustrated, so i wasn't too focused on my sense of hearing there haha. maybe it's because my motor skills are pretty weak?

The first video really made me laugh, a lot. I did not notice that bear at all! I did get the right amount of passes, but I did not even notice the moonwalking bear. As a side note: I love random things like moonwalking bears. (:
The second video, I was aware of the monkey because I saw the first video, but I did not get the right amount of passes! It shows that I can't do everything at once. I did notice the change of the curtain color however. The one thing I did not see was that one of the people wearing black left the game. I was so concentrated on the passes, the monkey, and the curtain that I did not even notice someone left!
@ Hai
I didn't even notice that one video had sound and the other didn't!!! You must multitask really good.
That was fun. I watched the first video twice. At first, I could notice the white team had 13 passes, but I never pay attention there was moonwalking bear pass through. That was an awesome trick. Of course, I paid a good attention on both the gorilla pass through and the color of curtain had changed. But I miscounted the passes of white team and one of the member of the black team had left. How amazing is that!!!
after the both videos, I could notice the important of perception. That is true that it's easy to miss something that we're not looking for.

I watched both the videos once.
the Gorilla video really caught my eye I that was interesting to me that the gorilla came out of nowhere and one of the girls from the black team left. I didn't notice her leaving I only noticed the Gorilla coming.
On the second video it said to count only the white team on how many times they throw the ball to the other person i counted 16 and thats how many times they threw it to the other person. which I got right. both the videos were very crazy yet interesting. I didnt catch the curtain changing. but overall I did catch the other stuff.
-Amira Jamshaid
I thought I did a good job in counting the passes correctly after watching the first video. Then I was shocked when it mentioned that there was a gorilla. I thought that was a dirty trick. So then for the next video, I made sure that I count the passes correctly and not miss the gorilla. I did all that correctly only to find out that was yet another dirty trick :( But this was a fun exercise though.
As far as walking around the house with my eyes close, the first thing I did was I held out my hand and concentrated in feeling my way around. I was weird, because it was automatic. I didn't make an voluntary decision that I will my sense of touch instead of my other senses.
P.S. to my previous post
I meant to say bear for the first video - not gorilla.
I got the number of passes correct but didnt notice the trick in the first video. In the second video I got the passes correct and saw the gorilla, but missed the others tricks again. I think if we were asked just to notice things occuring in the video, we would have noticed a lot more than what we did. Since we were asked to count the passes specifically, we only paid attention to that question and disregarded everything else, for the first video atleast.
~Adleen Prasad
WoW, these videos were so intense once i learned the "TRICKS!" This was a major learning experience for me. i couldn't believe i physically watched all those things in the video happen and not focus or even notice them. The objects in the video that weren't at first noticed were totally obvious also, which made it even more wierd i didn't notice them. These videos completely worked on me, guess i need to pay a lil more attention :)
(Sasha Lopez)
Wow these videos are good examples of what we tend to select and focus on and at the same time neglect our surroundings in many ways. On both videos I did get the number of passes right, but totally missed the gorilla, bear, curtain changing and the black team leaving the floor. During the secound video where the curtain changed colors I did notice the screen getting brighter, but didnt realize that the curtain in the background altered colors.
Certain times at work people would come up to me later in the day and ask why i didnt reply to them while they said Hi or were waving and i was looking directly at them, but not responding. I would not realize anything and at first thought they were just kidding. After realizing that we as humans tend to select certain aspects into our focus, it makes sense that thats probably why i did not notice them. Usually when i step into the store i look around to see if my friends are also working, so i guess thats why i dont see them saying Hi even though i am looking their way.

It's very interesting how when you are distracted you don't notice some things. You get caught up in trying to follow something only to miss something. I then like how in the second video you are so focused on seeing if something is going to walk across the screen you miss 2 different things going on. Very very interesting on how they slide things in there without you noticing. I'm sure im like a lot of people that noticed the bear in the second video but didnt notice the curtain change or the person leaving.
Michael Drummond
After watching both videos, I was surprised by the ending results and the secrets revealed. At first I believed that I would not be tricked by anything as I believe myself to be a very attentive person that pays close attention to small details, and notices things others wouldn't. However, I was amused to find that I missed many things.
I would not have noticed many of the things had they not been pointed out to me. These videos demonstrated just how tricky erception can be, and how narrowed our attention can be when we are preoccupied. Our attention and awareness is subjct to what we choose to focus in on and is easily narrowed by distractions, our own interests and agendas.
Ha! for the first video i didnt notice the gorilla at all.. i was too busy counting passes. i thought it was a player from the other team dancing around. For the second video i seen the gorilla, and didnt notice the girl leave. I thought the curtain changing colors was just bad video quality. ;)
