You almost have made it team! Great job sticking with it...be sure to come to all class meetings so you get your attendance points and dom't miss any pop-quizes! This week, I want us to focus on preparation...as you prepare for your summer break, what are you most looking forward too? Speaking of preparation...name one thing that you noticed yourself doing better in class when you were more prepared...how much prep is too much? How do you find a balance...keeping life interesting means not memorizing and rehearsing every move, but some planning is important, don't you think? Can't wait to hear your opinion!!! ----Smiles--Sblogra

Colin McAteer--I am looking forward to having sometime for myself before summer school. I notice when I come to class prepared, I am relaxed. There is no anxiety and I let the information, I have studied, flow. If I spend my life on memorizing everything, somethings in my life will slip. For example, I need to touch base with my friends and family and every once in a while do some socializing. If I feel have a hold on the subject at hand, I will relax and do some extracurricular activities.
I am not looking forward to Summer because it's too hot of a season. And most importantly, I have summer school, haha. What a great way to spend my Summer! I think we all need to be prepare, not just for class project or speech (in this case), but for life as well because "life happens, so be prepared." I think that I still have a lot to work on but do notice that I've opened up a little or maybe too much..hmm? ttyl

For my summer break I am looking forward to spending time with my friends. I noticed myself paying better attention when I am mentally prepared for class. The point of worrying is too much prep. Focusing on what is currently at hand for yourself is finding a good balance in life (for example, if you are at work, only focus on work; if you are at school, only focus on school.)

For my summer break I am looking forward to a 3 week trip to beautiful Greece! If I make sure that I am not hungry then I can focus in class better; therefore, I bring carrots. Too much prep for me is when I can't relax and start to feel stressed. For me to find a balance in life, I just do the best I can with each thing that crosses my path and don't take anything too serious.

What I am looking forward to during summer break is relaxing in the sun and partaking in social gatherings with my friends.
I continually strive to be prepared in my personal and professtional life. It contributes to less stress and enjoyment.
Too much prep can be overwhelming, and as a result you can easily lose sight of all the wonderful things that surround you, so it's important to make time for yourself because life is way too short.

I'm mostly looking foward to my man coming back from texas.
After taking this class I feel more confident when speaking.
You can never prepare to much, unless you boring.

I'll miss this class very much! I had a lot of fun. I notice I have more confidence in speaking in public and I think I'll make communications my major. Yaaaay~!
This summer, I look forward to more school believe it or not! I will be taking an algebra class to get ahead on some credits... and I planned on taking a kick boxing class as well. But since I was in the hospital this past week and I'm anemic now, I might not be able to... showing that life doesn't go always exactly as planned. But its okay. Maybe I'll take a dance class instead.

I am looking forward to the summer because I will have some much needed vacation and my children will spend the most of their summer with their Dad.
As for prep, it is a good idea to have a goal in mind and find ways keep focus on it without over compensating. I found with the Earth Day poems I was a bit too prepared, too memorizied so I didn't put much personality in my poem. I like the using the outline for my speeches and I think I have it down now-thanks to Sandi

I am looking forward to summer but not so much because I have to go to summer school. When I come to class prepared, I feel more at comfortable. I don't like memorizing speeches because I practice so much that I would forget what I was trying to memorize. Too much prep stresses me out. I balance life with school by doing all my school work first, then I can have play time.

I am so excited about summer let me tell you like I'm already counting down the days till I leave for summer camp and summer also means new summer wardrobe so I'm pretty stoked about that too but when I actually prepare for speeches I'm just more comfortable like I'm not as nervous and shy I can make more eye contact and just feel comfortable but don't over prepare or else it gets boring you have to have your personality come through
I am not taking classes this summer which is kind of disappointing to me because I like the stimulation. I am looking forward to accomplishing some of the tasks I have not been able to, though, and having some free time.
For me, I am far less nervous for anything, speech, test, race, whatever, if I am well prepared. For speeches, that means that I have practiced and timed them. Come to think of it, I need to get going on my persuasive speech so that I have time to practice!

I'm looking forward to spending some quality time with my family on the lake jetskiing.
When I am prepared, I tend to be more relaxed and everything just flows better. When I'm too prepared, I tend to get frustrated when unexpected changes happen. For ex: If I spent a lot of time rehearsing and practicing something, only to get cancelled or postponed.

I am most looking forward to only taking one class this summer. It will be a nice break than the three I have this semester along with full-time work and three kids. It's the simple things.
I find when I am better prepared that I don't lose my place in my speech. If I am too prepared I tend to read too much from my notes though so I have to find a balance.

I am looking forward to the big 30 at the end of next month!! Being prepared does help, gives yuo confidence and direction, but you can overplan. If you expect every detail to gojust how you rehearsed it you are setting yourselfup for disappointment. Besides, the unexpected things that you didn't plan for are often soem of the best!

I am looking forward to summer. its always fun having pool parties, going to the lake, or just hanging with friends. I think being prepared is a must, but not to over do it. some people stress about getting everything perfect, but just coming relaxed and ready is the best way. Finding a balance can be hard sometimes just because its all about setting priorities and if you dont then you usually end up succeeding some things and failing others.
Kyle Jeremica
I'm looking forward to the break from school for the summer. Its been a while since I have been in school and I think I took on a little too much this semester; but its ok. When I get prepared for class it defenately makes things easier and takes some stress off. The problem I am having right now with so much going on in my life is that I cannot prepare for everything as well as I would like. You end up having to choose between one thing and another or doing several things at once. That's when the quality of your work starts to suffer. But sometimes you dont have a choice.

well im expecting a lil one this summer so im preparing for that. there is much preparation in that, financially, emotionally, and physically. in class, when i actually take the time to study i find that i do much better but at times u can over study and everything gets all jumbled in your head and u start to get confused. that's when i think too much preparation comes into play.

Normally, I would be looking forward to a summer break away from school but this year I have decided to attend summer school. Unfortunately, this puts a damper on things for me.
I've never been very nervous about speaking in public but I must say that my speeches are much better when I am prepared. While my public speaking skills weren't bad before, learning to do proper research before speaking has helped me tremendously. I believe what often causes the nervousness that often accompanies public speaking is a lack of real preparation. I'm not sure if there is a really good formula for avoiding too much preparation; however, what works for me is building a skeleton of what I want and filling in the smaller blanks with spontaneity. I think it provides a balance between knowing what one wants to say and the ability to interject the unplanned/unwritten.
-Malikka Rogers
This summer, I am looking foward to my trip to Vegas before summer session begins.
Now that I have taken this class I realized that I am more comfortable with public speaking and volunteering myself to speak instead of waiting to be the last person to give a speech.
With the speeches I give, I feel that if i'm too prepared, I tend to lose focus and it will become boring because I'm only focusing on getting it right.

I am looking forward to the summer break from school. Since my job has really gotten busy the last six months, a break from school is what I need. I intend to do a little traveling and relaxing.
I have noticed when I am prepared in class I enjoy listening and I not stressed or nervous because a "POP" quiz may be heading my way. I have learned that it is always good to be prepared. I guess I learned it as a girl scout. Balance is always a good thing for me. I have noticed that when I speak about a subject that I enjoy it is flows better..not reading. After taking this class, I know that I have a lot to learn about developing a speech. That is my most difficult area.

This summer I am looking forward to my trip...finally a "stress free" time for the longest in my life.
After taking this fun and exciting class, I've notice that I have overcome "stage fright". I feel much more confident about myself when speaking to or infront of others. Preparing my work (speeches) ahead of time is a better outcome to me...I get more time to practice and do other things as well.
However....toooo much practicing or rehearsing my speech will only
1)screw me up when it comes to the "real deal" . 2)stress me and I'll "break out" (in Pimples)! 3.)bored me on my own speech.
Therefore, I do not like to "glue" myself with "tooo much practicing." =)
I like to balance my life out. For ex: I go fishing with my little family...girl talk on the phone for hrs...chase my "SUPER ENERGETIC" one yr. old around...or just simply sleep. ^_^

I am looking for my trip to Tahoe with my entire family, we haven't been on a trip in YEARSSS. One thing I noticed is that when I rehearse my speech a lot, I'm not as nervous when I come to class. I think too much prep is when you're stressing day and night about your speech. I find a balance by planning some things, and then doing other things along the way if I have time.

I am looking forward to the fact that it's SUMMER, meaning outside a lot.. barbeque's, swimming, laying out.
I have noticed that the more prepared I am for a speech in class the less nervous I am. Too much preparation would be like overdoing something with like too many facts or information. I think that the happy medium is providing a decent amount of information as well as entertaining with experiences people can relate to.

Im SOO Looking forward to summer, Its the onlt time of the year where I can bring my Jet Skis out to play and on top of that, I can get a TAN!
As for Preperation, Its always good to be prepared cause to you dont want to look stupid while presenting...=)

i cant wait for summer! im looking forward mostly to traveling and just hanging out with friends. When i prepare to take trips with friends i always seem to over think itor over prepare. everyone just ends up doing what they want to do anyways so i think this summer im going to just go with the flow. however, in class and especially speeches i think there needs to be a lot of preparation or else your automatically setting yourself up for failure and your not going to accomplish what you wanted to. when it comes to school i dont think there is such a thing as being over prepared but when it comes to life i think there should be some freedom to do anything you want.
*Linley*
The only thing that I look forward to summer is having the time to hang out with family and friends- otherwise the summer kind of sucks. It's too dang hot! I think that when I have a good overview of each class I feel prepared and the class flies by when you have a good understanding. It can be really stressful when you try and bombard yourself with information and there is really no way of retaining it all.

HAPPY!

I am looking forward to River Rafting Trips, Jet Skiing, Wake-Boarding, MOTO GP 08 Laguna Seca!, Lots of riding time in the mountains with the new CBR Repsol and maybe some sleep! For the most part what i do find myself doing a little better is managing my time. In the past I have found my self overloaded just because i have not managed my time correctly.

I have no plan for the summer and i am not sure if i will be taking class. I noticed that if i come to class prepared then it would be much easier for me. It will help me relax and be stress free.It is good to be prepared ever time on thing that you are planning to do. There will never be too much unless you are getting bored from what you are doing. Taking this class has help me build up my confident and decrease my shyness.

I am looking forward to summer because thats the only time i can have time to myself and get to go on vacation with my love ones.
As for preperation, its always best to be prepared because when you go up and present you wont feel unorganized or lost on what your talking about.

Well I am looking forward to my summer break and focusing on my state job...I am still excited that I have it. Sometimes I can't believe that I do. I worked so hard to get there and now that I have it I dont want to lose it! As far as learning new things and recongnizing change in myself I noticed that I am more relaxed. I am more open and talkative to the people around me. When I think about preparation, I dont think there is anything you can over prepare yourself on. I always think of the impossible because the impossible can become possible. I also think that when it comes to life people need to allow themselves some freedom to enjoy life and not always preparing and just to be spontaneous!

I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO SUMMER. I JUST LOVE THE HOT WEATHER. I WILL ALSO LOOK FORWARD TO SWIMMING AND SPENDING TIME WITH MY FAMILY. I WILL BE GOING TO SUMMER SCHOOL.
when i do prepare for class i feel more at ease and not nervous. i fell like as if i can challenge anything. That goes the same for situations that come up in life.

I am looking forward to a short break before summer school starts. One thing I noticed myself doing better when I was more prepared was that I wasn't as nervous. I think too much prep is not having time to do anything else. I find a balance by trying to find time to fit the important stuff in first.

I cant wait until summer!! Although I will be continuing class durng summer, there's just nothing that can eat a warm summer day and the fun activities you can enjoy..
I am still having a hard time unfortunatly with my speech skills. Trying to prepare myself and to appear confident and calm is the best I can do to focus. Its a learning process that I will have to continue outside of this class to better help me succeed.

I LOVE the summer, but I hate summer session! I'll have to go to school almost everyday, what a bummer.
What I notice that I am doing better in class in is that I'm being more focused onto the audience. Yet, as for preparation, I'm still lacking. I know the topic at hand but I need to review it out loud so I be smoother and not pause so much with the "um"s.
This summer what I am looking forward to the most is spending weekend's rafting down the American River with my Kids (we have our own raft) We go down just about every other weekend. Summers are Great!!
Preperaing before class makes the class go smoothly I feel more confidant with topics being discussed. It also makes it easier to present early on rather then waiting towards the end of class.

I am not really looking forward to the summer because i start summer school the beginning of june so there is really no kind of break for me. But one thing ive noticed when preparing for speeches is that im not so nervous anymore because i know what im going to talk about so im more comfortable

im looking forward to san diego and hawaii and basically being away from sacramento. haha. but being prepared, i noticed that i tend to remember wht im gonna say so i dont look at the paper as much as i used too. but i look at it when i wanna say somethign to the "tee".

I have a cruise trip planned in the summer (to Mexico) and that's pretty much the only thing I'm looking forward to, other wise it's gets wat too hot... also I'm taking summer classes so I'll br pretty busy still.
I feel that being well prepared for class makes you feel better about yourself and your performance. I will get to enjoy the water this year, I hope!
I forgot my name, Darla A. just left the above comment.. I'll miss this class!
I can't wait till summer I need a break from this constant struggle to juggle a full-time job, a full load of school, two bands and a social life. I'm definately glad I've made it this far and enjoyed every minute of this communications course.
I think preparation is key. I did notice the more I practiced what I was going to talk about and or add lib it tended to make me less nervous. I don't think anyone will get over the nervousness but anything that can ease the anxiety is worth attemping.

I am looking forward to hopefully traveling this summer.O and if I dont get around to going places this summer I have my friends baby being born to look forward too. When I come to class prepared it makes it easier to stay focused on everthing. To much prep makes me more stressed than no prep at all which I dont understand. haha.
Have a good summer,

I cant wait for summer...I am so tired. With the full time job & new promotion, full time school, and life, I need to rest. I will be going to summer school but I will have a few weeks off. After summer school I will be going to Washington to see my lil bros and sis. So I'm very excited for that.
Planning ahead is very important. Sometimes I feel like a freak but it is something that has do be done in order to get things done.
I had a lot of fun in this class. I learned alot and i know I will be able to use it forever.
Thanks

I looking forward to wearing shorts and tank tops soon!!! My wardrobe expands doubley when the warm weather hits. No looking forward to summer classes-and I know I will be missing all my fellow classmates in my comm 361 thurs class. Adios everyone!!

I am looking forward to spending quality time with my family. I noticed that my speech flows better and I just have to use my cards as a guide, not to read. Their is never too much prep to stay familiar with your material unless it is every second of every hour. Taking chances being yourself and just living life, not letting life live you. Even if you try you cannot possibly plan every move, cause it not ever be the exact way that you planned for.
Monica Aguirre
Vito Yanez - I am looking forward to sleeping in, and no summer school for once lol...I plan on having a lot more time for myself to discover new hobbies and interests of mine. I noticed when I was more prepared I started enjoying the class more because most of our speeches were about our interest and speaking out about them was fun to me.
