Did I leave any name off the list? I suggested making some connections between Katrina dn The Landslide, only because they are both recent national disasters where The Red Croos has played a major role. Here are some possible site on the web to visit for posterboard, handout materials, etc (if you need multiple copies, email me an attachment and I will get copies made on campus before class Monday.)

Guys--Great work--And that is correct--No paper due if you blog 3 times each before next class, also, putting the posterboard together in class would be ok if you don't need too much time (bring glue stick) And for your handout, there is a part on the Red Cross Website that I think would be great to include, it tells how small donations help during disasters:
(from http://www.redcross.org/donate/coinstar.html)
How Can $1 Make a Difference?
66 pennies: Allows us to give a child any one of 11 "after the disaster" coloring books and a box of crayons.
$1: Buys one family expert safety information.
$3: Buys a comfort kit with toiletries for one disaster victim.
$6: Buys one blanket for a disaster shelter.
Quarters: Add up to dollars and $ 30 buys a pair of shoes for a disaster victim.
Dimes: Add up to dollars $ 65 buys a winter coat for a disaster victim.
$10: Buys one day of groceries for a family affected by a disaster.
$20: Buys a home clean-up kit for a family affected by a disaster.
I think this would help get the class excited about collecting change, it really does make a change in others' lives! Smiles-S

Hi there - below are some info you can use - especially on the connection between earth Day and the mudlside in the Philippines. My dyad team and I have used the following sources - the Manila Standard has some good info and I have also put the intro we are going to use for our presentation in case you want some connection between the two:

intro:
Earth Day – Philippine Mudslide Disaster Outline (Using Emotions and Conflict Chapters)
Earth Day and the Philippine Mudslide Disaster in Guinsagon, Philippines on February 17, 2006 are two related events. The mudslide took place combined with a 2.6 magnitude earthquake. Manila Standard reported that there was continuous heavy rains for two weeks and geographically, the light tremor was enough to “shake the rain-soaked’ community. An estimated 1,800 people died due to the landslides blamed on illegal logging.
Emotions shape our world and what we do. They influence how we feel about others and the way we communicate with other people.
In times of crises, intense emotions arise. We feel empathy, compassion, anger, grief, helplessness, hopelessness.
As mature individuals, we should have emotional intelligence to deal with crises and day-to-day activities.
Differences in viewpoints, mindset, goals happen in interpersonal conflict. The aim is for a win-win situation that addresses these differences and resolve the conflict.
sorry if it is long.
